This greeting card was made on a letterpress which gives it a lovely tactile feeling of ridges and impressions. It would also look smashing framed on a wall.
The image is taken from John Levett’s 1634 “The True Ordering of Bees”, currently held by The National Library of Scotland and The Scottish Bee Keepers Association. This ground-breaking early study of the habits of bees, with close observation of their behaviour and suggestions on how to manage their hives, was one of the first agricultural textbooks.
